Hi, I’m Teri, the photographer behind The Trekking Mama. I head to the outdoors for adventure any chance I get. My aim is to share our family’s adventures as well as my own
solo experiences. I focus on bucket list hikes + backpacking trips both big + small. Inspiring other women to get out with and without their kids. Being a solo women in the outdoors can be intimidating at first but with the right mindset, empowering. In documenting my adventures I like to capture both the beauty of adventure as well as the less picturesque realities of contending with the wilderness.

Scraping my last backpacking trip bc we are leaving for 3 weeks abroad tomorrow (just too much to do) I looked for a hike in my backyard. And this is what I found. And it's someplace beckoning you to set up a tent and spend the night. On a clear day I bet the views go for miles. But honestly there is so much beauty sometimes way up in the clouds. 📍Mount Forgotten Meadows 🥾12 miles ⛰️3,800 ft of elevation gain 🎒 Mountain Loop Highway Mount Forgotten itself stood hidden in the clouds but the beauty of its Meadows won't be forgotten by me anytime soon. And I hope to go back and climb it. The Mountain Loop has so much to offer but you have to hike out a bit before you get to all the goods. I'm still dreaming of the reflection on the lake e I'm still dreaming of the reflection on the lake early in the morning. Some trips really exceed your expectations, this was one of them. Spade Lake. In a word, dreamy. I'm headed back here next week to hopefully make it up to the next lake and a few others. I feel I'm running out of time with summer here in Washington. Maybe it was partially getting in the frame as my daughter filmed me, trying to have mount baker in the background and be in the sun. All a little too much for this amateur. 🤣 None the less is what a ton of fun. DEHYDRATED VEGETABLES. add them to pretty much any meal and not only does it add nutrition but also taste! Lately my dehydrator is running around the clock and I'm loving it. So much fun and soooo easy! Ramen is a favorite. Easy, cheap and lightweight but often kinda skimpy on the veggies and some don't have any. But that's an easy fix. Dehydrate your own. Pro tip: add the veggies to the water as you boil bc they take a lot longer to rehydrate than the ramen. By the time you add your ramen the veggies are almost there making it perfect timing. Cypress Island. A little piece of paradise. We c Cypress Island. A little piece of paradise. We camped there for two nights with friends and had a WONDERFUL time. 🚣 We booked a ride on Island Charters and were dropped off directly on the beach. 🏕️ Check out Pelican Beach or Cypress Head for camping. And a cold dip. 🏡 They have compositing toilets. Definitely bring your own toilet paper. 💦 You need to bring all your own water. It's a great place to disconnect as a family! Same with life. 🫶 A few things I learned on my Same with life. 🫶 A few things I learned on my last trip. 🎉 Try something new. Don't let fear hold you back. I was t too keen at first on wrapping my bum in a plastic bag and glissading down the mountain. I don't know why but when I put the hesitation aside and went for it I had the BEST time. It was a highlight. 💑 Sometimes things are way better with friends. I met these two on the top and we took photos of each other and hiked down together. It was a reminder that hiking with friends can be so fun. I'm hoping to do more of it. 🔦 Its generally works out. Just have some faith. I was a bit nervous about hiking in bear country so late in the day, having to come back in the dark. It was worth it and I met these two and we hiked down most of it together. What lessons have you learned on your hikes? . . . . 🎒I backpacked to Garibaldi Lake for 2 nights. I 🎒I backpacked to Garibaldi Lake for 2 nights. It's a paradise. 💦 The water is "warm" compared to other lakes I've swam in. It's incredibly clear. The trout swim by you and love where they live. 🚸Its beauty is unparalleled but so are its crowds. I LOVED the mornings before the swarms of people arrived. I'm glad I went but I wouldn't go back. 🏕️ To stay here you need to make reservations. They go quick and open 4 months in advance on BC Parks. They have 50 tent platforms. 🐻 There are several shelters and picnic tables for you to cook and eat and hanging poles for your food. 🥾 If you are only looking to day hike you still need reservations but a day pass. They have a ranger tent set up by the entrance checking. 🫶 Overall it's definitely worth a visit and a swim. Holy moly was it HOT. 92 degrees when we started. Holy moly was it HOT. 92 degrees when we started. But totally worth it. What a color this lake is, it's unbelievable. One of the most beautiful I've ever seen. And swimming in it was a dream. I expected it to be soooo much colder. But to my surprise it was quite mild for glacier fed lakes. Would you take a dip? 🎒 Are you after a summer filled with outdoor ad 🎒 Are you after a summer filled with outdoor adventures?  If you are anything like me, it’s all about being outside. Especially with my kids. Follow @the.trekking.mama For more outdoor adventures in the PNW. ✨My secret sauce as of late is to plan the things they seem to enjoy the most. And then create a trip around it. At the moment it is all about being on the water paddle boarding. We bought a second one, and soon to buy a third. (Mama wants a turn paddling too) 🚣 And now I am after camping by lakes or paddle camping for the full experience. And WASHINGTON is full of ammmmazing lakes with lakeside camping.  📍Colonial Creek South (North is good too) North Cascades National Park When I see these campsites open up, I SCOOP them up. We just spent a night at Colonial Creek South Diablo Lake and it was heaven. If you can book a site on the water, even better. And we did. We were paddling till 9:45 last night in the dark. My toes were kinda cold so I had to call it good.
