The area’s ever-changing light creates a magical atmosphere, especially at sunrise or sunset. Whether you’re looking for a quick stop or a place to wander for hours, Devil’s Garden is a must-visit for any Utah adventure!

Peek-a-Boo + Spooky Slot Canyons

If you’re looking for an epic slot canyon adventure, Peekaboo and Spooky Gulch deliver in the best way. Peekaboo Gulch starts things off with a fun scramble into the canyon, leading you through stunning red rock formations and winding passageways. Then, Spooky Gulch kicks things up a notch with incredibly narrow slots that force you to squeeze, twist, and maneuver through some of the tight canyon walls. In all of Utah, this was my kids favorite hike! The contrast between the two keeps things exciting, and the otherworldly scenery makes it all worth it. If you’re up for a little scrambling and love a good adventure, this hike is a must!

Coyote Gulch

For those craving adventure, the rope route into Coyote Gulch offers a thrilling shortcut into one of Utah’s most stunning canyons. This steep sandstone descent requires a bit of scrambling and the aid of a fixed rope to reach the canyon floor. Once inside, you’re rewarded with lush streams, towering red rock walls, and iconic arches like Jacob Hamblin Arch. (truly jaw dropping!) It’s a challenging but exhilarating way to drop into this desert oasis, perfect for those looking to add an extra dose of excitement to their Coyote Gulch adventure.

We did this route with our kids to bypass hiking so many miles. I am so glad we did because climbing in and out of the canyon was a true highlight for the kids.

Cosmic Ashtray

Hidden deep in the Escalante wilderness, Cosmic Ashtray is a surreal sandstone crater unlike anything else in Utah. A massive pit of orange sand surrounded by smooth, wind-carved rock, it looks like an alien landscape dropped into the desert. The trek to reach it is rugged and unmarked – but this just adds to the adventure. With its ever-changing shadows and striking contrasts, this remote wonder is a must-see for those seeking Utah’s most otherworldly sights.

Golden Cathedral

The Golden Cathedral is an incredible sandstone alcove tucked away in Neon Canyon. It’s ceiling pierced by natural skylights that glow with reflected light. Reaching this hidden gem requires a scenic but challenging hike crossing the Escalante River 8 times and winding desert canyons. The view along the entire hike are nothing short of amazing and honestly the river can feel refreshing.

The best time to visit is when the sunlight shines through the openings turning the walls into a golden spectacle. We found a little later in the afternoon to be magic but it changes depending on the season. Regardless, Ii’s an unforgettable reward!

Reflection Canyon

If you’re looking for one of the most jaw-dropping viewpoints in Utah, Reflection Canyon might be it. This remote and strenuous trek leads to an unbelievable panorama of curving sandstone formations dipping into the blue waters of Lake Powell. With no real marked trail (once you hit the slickrock) and longer mileage, it’s a true test of endurance—but the sight of this otherworldly landscape at sunrise or sunset makes every step worth it. I

would definitely suggest an overnight here – just be prepared for a little wind.
